Friday in Library is a social club which brings together people from different cultural backgrounds who want to practice Estonian in a pleasant and welcoming setting.

The club is a place to get acquainted with one another, have conversations with the help of various forms of communication, play fun team games, and exchange information.

The Friday in Library events are meant for those who are still learning Estonian and who want to practice it in a playful manner. The events take place from September until December.

Exploring the urban space of Tallinn – Pirita Convent B1+ (Tallinn)

Come on a guided walk to discover the urban space of Tallinn!

This is a series of activities supporting the learning of the Estonian language for adults whose mother tongue is not Estonian. As part of the series, we will discover different areas of Tallinn together with an Estonian-speaking guide. We will get to know the urban space and attractions and discover interesting historical connections.

This time, we will visit Pirita Convent and its ruins. Where did the idea of founding the Pirita Convent come from? Who is considered the founder of the Bridgettine Order and what made the order unique? How long did the construction of the Pirita Convent last? How many years could the Pirita Convent operate in the Middle Ages? What was life in the convent like? What does a double monastery mean? What did the sisters and brothers of the convent do? How was Pirita Convent affected by the Livonian War and what happened to Pirita Convent next? Let us find out together.

Participants can practice the Estonian language and learn more about the culture and history of Estonia.

The Joys of Communication B1+ (Rummu)

The Social Club is a series of activities contributing to the Estonian language learning of adults whose mother tongue is other than Estonian, and it takes place from January to December of 2023.

It is meant for those who want to practice Estonian in a playful manner.

The Social Club, which meets in the hall of Lääne-Harju Library, brings together people from various cultural backgrounds who would like to practice Estonian in a pleasant and friendly setting. Instructor Kaie Pungas is an artist-ceramist from the Estonian Academy of Arts.

The class is perfect for language learners who are interested in ceramics and want to communicate in Estonian in a relaxed atmosphere. Estonian-speaking ceramics enthusiasts are also welcome to help the language learners.

Let’s sing together A1+ (Paldiski)

We are going to sing Estonian songs from various genres, learn about the Estonian culture, and practice Estonian.

By singing together, we are going to learn Estonian folk songs, runic songs, pop songs, and learn about Estonian culture. Through the songs, we will learn Estonian vocabulary and pronunciation, have more confidence when speaking, and find new friends. From time to time, we will also play various interactive games and have quizzes.

Mängula is an online Estonian language game event for all the foreigners who want to learn Estonian in a playful manner.

We gather once a month to play games that are designed for the Estonian language learners. In Mängula, the participants can practice Estonian in a fun way and meet the other Estonian language students around to world.

The organizer Riina Roasto is an Estonian language teacher, translator and a PhD student in Finno-Ugristics at the University of Vienna. Throughout the years of teaching Estonian in various universities and language schools in Estonia, Ukraine, Germany and France, she has discovered the advantage of using language games in the classroom. While introducing Estonian to foreigners, Riina has designed a great number of language games to ease the learning process and help the students to progress, while having fun. Currently, she is lecturing in Estonian Language and Culture at the INALCO University in Paris.

Disc golf workshop A2+ (Tallinn)

There are many disc golf courses in Tallinn and all over Estonia. Disc golf is the perfect way to be active with your friends and family for free. In the workshop in Mustamäe forest, under the guidance of Margit Viilep, we will be introduced to different disc golf discs, get acquainted with the rules, and learn how to play safely.

Margit Viilep is an experienced disc golf specialist who has been actively playing this game for six years.

In this meeting that is dedicated to the year of mobility, participants will be able to practice the Estonian language, learn new words, admire the beautiful nature of the capital, and hear about opportunities for being active.

The garden invites everyone! A2+ (Jõhvi)

Take the opportunity to enrich your gardening vocabulary and practise your Estonian.

The weather favours gardening and the Estonian Language House in Narva invites everyone who has developed a love for gardening, as well as everyone else who is interested, to visit the nursery of Juhani Puukool in Jõhvi. Under the guidance of an experienced agronomist, we will learn about the range of plants available at the nursery, how to choose plants depending on the soil and fertilisers, and how to care for and look after them. And, of course, it is an excellent opportunity to choose some plants you want for your garden.

Language Training through physical activities A1+ (Paldiski)

Practical language training through physical activity – we are going to be active, communicate, and learn!

Language training takes place twice a month starting from September. All activities are relaxed, fun, and interesting. We are going to get to know one another, make friends, and learn Estonian together. You will not even notice learning the language as we spend time together.

Yoga classes, dance lessons, hikes, parlour games – all activities are accompanied by learning Estonian through communication and expressing yourself. We are going to meet new friends and learn Estonian!

All who are interested are welcome to join the workouts of our team, regardless of age or physical form. If you are interested, then this is an easy way to polish your Estonian skills.
