In association with the Estonian Folk Culture Centre, the Estonian Language Centre in Tallinn is hosting workshops showcasing Estonian customs, holidays, rituals, folk songs and dances and much more. The course includes engaging talks, seminars, discussions and hands-on activities. Each workshop provides an overview of a particular facet of folk culture and involves singing Estonian songs and discussing holidays and special events that fall during the given month.

• 26 February | 13:00-16:00 | February songs and special days. Traditional Estonian handicrafts in the example of national costume. National costume and Estonian weddings. Hands-on task: weaving laces. Participants are asked to bring a small amount of woollen yarn with them.
• 26 March | 13:00-16:00 | March songs and special days. The culture of the island of Kihnu. Women’s folk traditions on Kihnu (folk songs, national costume and customs). Call to mind what you know about Kihnu!
• 30 April | 13:00-16:00 | April songs and special days. Men’s folk song traditions. ‘To each man his own instrument.’ What instruments did the men in your family play, or what songs did they sing?
• 28 May | 13:00-16:00 | May songs and special days. The Whitsun and Midsummer holidays (customs, storytelling heritage and traditional songs). What does your family do at Midsummer?

Our architecture tours are city excursions showcasing the exposition of the Estonian Museum of Architecture and architectural highlights of Tallinn, with Estonian commentary provided by guides. Those taking the tour have the chance not only to learn more about architecture but also to hone their Estonian skills. 

On February 26 a city tour of Kadriorg wooden architecture will take place.

We will get acquainted with valuable natural places, learn vocabulary related to plants, animals and birds, talk about caring about the nature. There will be a quiz in the conclusion.

Choose appropriate clothing according to the weather. As the day will be long then we recommend you to take your own drink and snack with you. The plan is subject to change.

The monthly cooking training in the cooking class leads those interested in the Estonian language to the food and culture of different continents. People living and working in Pärnu and Pärnu County with other than Estonian mother tongue can practice Estonian for three hours and focus on the cultures of different continents and nations.

Language Roulette is a series of virtual meetings coorganized by teachers and mentors of the Estonian language houses of the Integration Foundation, which brings together people who want to practice Estonian in a new format of short conversations in the Zoom environment.

Participants of the Language Roulette can chat for a limited time in Estonian on a given topic in a random group. After that, the group will be changed and a new conversation on the new topic will begin. Both language learners (starting from A2 level) and mentors who speak Estonian at the level of native speaker will participate in the conversations.

Once a month on Fridays we will visit various museums, practice the Estonian language, gain new knowledge of Estonian history and culture. This time we are going to visit the exhibition of the Seaplane Harbour.

The Seaplane Harbour accommodates one of Europe’s grandest maritime museums.

We are going to have a tour in the Seaplane Hangar, with stories from underwater, the surface and above. Let us dive together to the origins of the Finno-Ugric culture, drift on the stormy Baltic Sea and surface eventually in the middle of hi-tech equipment from the previous century.

The Seaplane Harbour, including the Seaplane Hangar, was built to become part of Peter the Great’s naval fortress 100 years ago on orders from the Russian emperor Nicholas II. The building was used for seaplanes until the Second World War!
