This guided tour of the Opera House will give you an insight into how it operates, including backstage! Following the tour we’ll be meeting with a guest linked to the venue, who’ll be telling us about their work. This will be followed by conversation that everyone’s welcome to contribute to.

Social club for beginners CANCELLED

This club is open to true beginners: people just starting to learn Estonian. Through games and other fun activities, we practise the language in a relaxed atmosphere. This will help you overcome the language barrier and gain more courage to use your Estonian. Club activities take place entirely in Estonian.

ART TALKS IN KUMU

This series of events is aimed at Estonian language learners who are interested in culture. Participants are introduced to some amazing art while actively learning Estonian at the same time.   They gain a broad overview of the world of art, explore exhibitions, take part in discussions on related topics and undertake tasks and activities that contribute to their learning of Estonian.

COOKING CLUB – A culinary approach to learning Estonian

We’ll cook together, sharing skills, tips and recipes, then set the table, sit down and enjoy the food we’ve made. At the end of each class we’ll summarise what we’ve learnt in Estonian in terms of both new words and about cooking itself.   We’ll discuss what we found difficult and what exciting new discoveries we made. 

The classes will be all about socialising, which will take place entirely in Estonian. 

This year, the cooking classes are only open to relative beginners. Participation is on the basis of proof of vaccination. Each class will be limited to 10 participants.  

Min. language level required: A2 only 

Participants should bring their own aprons.

LANGUAGE ROULETTE (via Zoom)

Language roulette gets you practising your Estonian! Bringing people together via Zoom, it offers you the chance to chat about given topics in random groups for a pre-determined amount of time. What exactly you’ll be discussing you’ll only find out on the day! A fun, relaxed atmosphere is guaranteed. 

Min. language level required: A2 (The format is open to learners whose Estonian skills are at least at the A2 level as well as to native speakers of the language) 

When: 7.12 at 18:00 (logging in at 17:45 and starting at 18:00 on the dot!)

CONVERSATION CLASSES FOR ADVANCED LEARNERS

These conversation classes are designed for intermediate to advanced adult learners of Estonian whose language skills already enable them to converse in the language but who need and want to hone their spoken Estonian in particular. 

Each class takes a different topic as its focus, which remains a secret right up until the class begins.

Church Fridays – St Nicholas’ Church (in Tallinn)

These guided tours of Tallinn churches (including St Nicholas’ Church and its museum, Holy Spirit Church and St Mary’s Cathedral) take place once a month and are entirely in Estonian. After the tour, participants can explore the church further on their own. The tours are open to adults whose mother tongue is a language other than Estonian but who speak Estonian at the B1, B2 or C1 level. Participants can hone their Estonian listening skills as the guide speaks to them and practise their spoken Estonian by asking questions and talking to other people on the tour. The church visits represent a great way to improve your Estonian while learning more about history and culture.

This creative and invigorating course will give you the chance to process your feelings and memories and open yourself up to who you truly are as you prime yourself to write, polish your self-expression skills and discover topics that inspire you. We’ll be reading, writing and discussing things together – and be very happy to do so!
