This guided tour of the Opera House will give you an insight into how it operates, including backstage! Following the tour we’ll be meeting with a guest linked to the venue, who’ll be telling us about their work. This will be followed by conversation that everyone’s welcome to contribute to.

COOKING CLUB – A culinary approach to learning Estonian

We’ll cook together, sharing skills, tips and recipes, then set the table, sit down and enjoy the food we’ve made. At the end of each class we’ll summarise what we’ve learnt in Estonian in terms of both new words and about cooking itself.   We’ll discuss what we found difficult and what exciting new discoveries we made. 

The classes will be all about socialising, which will take place entirely in Estonian. 

This year, the cooking classes are only open to relative beginners. Participation is on the basis of proof of vaccination. Each class will be limited to 10 participants.  

Min. language level required: A2 only

Architecture tours – Estonian Museum of Architecture

Architecture tours support language-learning and are designed for adult students of Estonian who speak another language as their mother tongue and who are interested in architecture. The tours showcase local architecture in Estonian and are led by guides. Those taking the tours have the chance not only to learn more about architecture but also to hone their Estonian skills.

Estonian Museum of Architecture is a vital archive of the manmade history of Estonia. Visitors can investigate its four exhibitions: ‘Space in Motion: A Century of Estonian Architecture’ and ‘Explore Space!’ (permanent) and ‘Oasis: Irma Arribas & Erich Weiss’ and ‘The Houses That We Need’ (temporary).

As an added bonus, they gain a practical skill that can be put to use making, for example, a card for a special occasion or a specially-worded decoration. The workshops are run entirely in Estonian.

BEGINNER’S LUCK social club

This club is open to true beginners: people just starting to learn Estonian. Through games and other fun activities, we practise the language in a relaxed atmosphere. This will help you overcome the language barrier and gain more courage to use your Estonian. Club activities take place entirely in Estonian.

This creative and invigorating course will give you the chance to process your feelings and memories and open yourself up to who you truly are as you prime yourself to write, polish your self-expression skills and discover topics that inspire you. We’ll be reading, writing and discussing things together – and be very happy to do so!

ART TALKS IN KUMU

This series of events is aimed at Estonian language learners who are interested in culture. Participants are introduced to some amazing art while actively learning Estonian at the same time.   They gain a broad overview of the world of art, explore exhibitions, take part in discussions on related topics and undertake tasks and activities that contribute to their learning of Estonian.
