Cultural meetings (Narva)

Online cultural meetings acquaint us with interesting Estonian artists, writers, fashion designers, and other exciting representatives of culture.

During the meetings, we will get to know their work and daily activities. Participants will gain new and exciting knowledge, while at the same having the rare opportunity to ask questions and contribute to the conversation.

On the 5th of october we will get to know an actor called Eduard Tee. Eduard has worked in Russian Theather since 2017 and he has had many interesting roles in classical and modern plays. Now he is coming to Narva´s Estonian Language House and we cannot wait to meet him. We can ask him questions and try acting with his assistance!

Sillamäe social club (Sillamäe)

The Sillamäe social club of the Estonian Language House in Narva is a perfect place to practice the Estonian language. We also talk about the events of Ida-Viru County and discuss what is happening close to home.

The social club welcomes language learners who want to overcome the communication barrier and discuss topics that are currently relevant in society: for example, switching to Estonian-language education, caring for loved ones in need, and the green transition.

Around 165 000-200 000 Estonian live abroad. That is 15-20% of all Estonians in the world.

Our goal is that Estonians returning to Estonia adapt smoothly to society and that compatriots living abroad remain closely connected with Estonia.

Four seasons: autumn trip on the Onion Route (Peipsimaa Onion Route)/all places are booked

This year, we welcome autumn on the Onion Route, where we will also celebrate Michaelmas!

We will go on an exciting and horizon-broadening study trip, during which you can practice the Estonian language and get to know the customs and traditions of Peipsi County.

Everyone named Mihkel, Mihhail, or Michael, as well as all of their friends, are welcome to celebrate Michaelmas.

The study tour includes a visit to the Juhan Liiv Museum, the Alatskivi Manor Stables, the Peipsimaa Visitor Centre, and the Kodavere Heritage Centre, making a block printed tote bag, singing in the Kodavere language, and many other interesting and engaging activities.

Friday in Library is a social club which brings together people from different cultural backgrounds who want to practice Estonian in a pleasant and welcoming setting.

At this Friday in Library, we are going to talk about cultural differences as well as unique characteristics, customs, and traditions of various cultures.

The Friday in Library events are meant for those who are still learning Estonian and who want to practice it in a playful manner. The events take place from September until December.

Day trip to the Estonian National Museum in Tartu (Tallinn) / all places are booked

We are going to visit the Estonian National Museum in the Raadi city district in Tartu, which introduces the culture of Estonian and Finno-Ugric people.

We will explore the new building of the Estonian National Museum, opened in 2016, tour the exhibitions, and participate in workshops.

Discussing money and taxes (Klooga)

At the event, we are going to expand our horizons and learn about topics related to economy which affect everyone. We are going to discuss purchases, income, and state taxes in Estonian.

 

What do people buy and how do they pay for the goods and services? Is money earned or does one’s income consist of benefits? To what extent does the state support its people? Where does a state get its funds? We are going discuss these and other topics related to market economy in Estonian.

The moderator of the meetings is Taimi Viidna. She has taught accounting and preparation of business plans to adults for 25 years and is currently employed as an accountant. She is registered as a self-employed person. Taimi has a great sense of humour and is very knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics.

LANGUAGE ROULETTE (via Zoom)

Language Roulette invites you to practise Estonian! We meet virtually on Zoom in the format of short conversations.

We chat in Estonian for a limited time in a random group. The topics will be clarified at the meeting. A positive and free atmosphere is guaranteed.

Language Training through physical activities (Paldiski)

Practical language training through physical activity – we are going to be active, communicate, and learn!

Language training takes place twice a month starting from September. All activities are relaxed, fun, and interesting. We are going to get to know one another, make friends, and learn Estonian together. You will not even notice learning the language as we spend time together.

Yoga classes, dance lessons, hikes, parlour games – all activities are accompanied by learning Estonian through communication and expressing yourself. We are going to meet new friends and learn Estonian!

All who are interested are welcome to join the workouts of our team, regardless of age or physical form. If you are interested, then this is an easy way to polish your Estonian skills.
