Estonian language house

Eesti Keele Maja

Our Estonian courses are intended for adults who wish to develop their Estonian skills for work, family, or coping better with everyday life. We generally offer courses both in the language house and in the language schools we are partnered with.

In the language house, we teach Estonian language and culture primarily for the purpose of acquiring the language at a communicative level. Our teachers use the following textbooks: E nagu Eesti, K nagu Kihnu, Naljaga pooleks, and Tere!, Tere jälle!, and Tere taas!. The learning is based on the best practice for teaching adults of the Integration Foundation.

We organise courses at levels A1–B1 both in classrooms and online. As of January 2024, the total volume of Estonian language learning is 500 academic hours: the level A1 course consists of 100 academic hours and the level A2 course of 150 academic hours. Level B1 is divided into two parts: level B1.1 consists of 120 academic hours and level B1.2 of 130 academic hours.

The courses start twice a year – in September and February. The courses run from September to January and from February to June. For our autumn courses, we also offer our students a Christmas break free of studies.

You will need to undergo a consultation to participate in the courses of the language house. If it turns out during the consultation that a course is suitable for learning Estonian, we will contact you at the details provided in the self-service as soon as we are able to offer you a suitable Estonian language course. We will give priority to offering relevant learning opportunities to those who have successfully completed a language course at the language house and wish to continue with a course on the next level of language learning.
