New Estonian cinema A2+ (Narva)

‘New Estonian cinema’ is a monthly series of film evenings focused on recent Estonian cinema.

The series focuses mainly on the best Estonian comedy and drama films, but also features award-winning documentaries and artistic short films (BFM).

The movie nights´ aim is to introduce contemporary Estonian films and improve listening, reading, and discussion skills. The screenings are preceded and followed by a free-form discussion where participants share their thoughts; more complex (including colloquial) expressions found in the films and the background of the movies are also discussed before the screening. Each occasion also provides a specific information or worksheet.

Estonian movies are part of our cultural sphere and the movie nights at the Estonian Language House in Narva are an excellent opportunity to navigate better in this field.

At the January´s movie night we can proudly present our own movie called „Valik“(„Choice“). Being the first feature film from Narva, it depicts problems from a border city in the end of the 90s. Border point worker Inna faces choices and identity questions that can change her life completely.

January: visit to the Jõhvi Upper Secondary School

In autumn 2023, two state upper secondary schools are going to be opened in Narva, with a total of more than 700 pupils. For inspiration and to see how the new state upper secondary schools that already exist in Estonia operate, we invite parents and children to visit the Jõhvi, Tabasalu, Rakvere, and Läänemere state upper secondary schools and learn about the concepts, curricula, and life in general at these schools.

Four Seasons: Winter Trip along the Onion Route A1+/Registration is closed

During the trip, we will practise Estonian, learn many new and exciting things, and get acquainted with the customs and traditions of Peipsimaa.

As the trip takes place in the heart of winter, we take the Onion Route to celebrate tõnisepäev (feast day of St. Anthony the Great). As Estonian winters are unpredictable, we have two itineraries this time.

According to plan A (which requires ice on Lake Peipsi), we will have a karakat safari on the lake, go fishing, and have a tea ceremony at Samovar House.

According to plan B (if there is no ice on Lake Peipsi), we will have a tea ceremony and a cookie decorating workshop and visit the Voronja gallery at the Samovar House.

The weather of the first weeks of January will dictate which plan we will follow.
