The Parents Club is designed for adults and families interested in broadening their skills and knowledge. It gives parents the chance to have their say on educational issues and represents an opportunity to hone their language skills. Developing spoken self-expression is the focus. Each get-together looks at a specific issue that speaks to the participants, with special guests being invited to take part – experts in their own fields. Day trips are organised once every three months which parents can take part in with their kids in tow.

Film night "Kõhedad muinaslood" (in Jõhvi)

Over a series of nights we’ll be watching some great Estonian films together. The movies will be shown at the Amadeus cinema at Jõhvi Concert Hall, with the film nights being held twice a month from October to December. All screenings will start at 18:00. The programme has yet to be finalised, but will include such films as Seltsimees laps, Sangarid, Supilinna Salaselts, Mehed, Kratt, Eesti matus, Jõulud džunglis and Eia jõulud Tondikakul. Each screening will be followed by a brief discussion in which everyone will get the chance to share their thoughts on the film. Places are limited: only around 50 people will be able to attend each screening.

On October 25, we will watch the film "Lean Fairy Tales" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcNoTU5KtKk). The film is not recommended for children under age 12 years.

Film night "Oli kord üks mets" (in Jõhvi)

Over a series of nights we’ll be watching some great Estonian films together. Museum day: Museum of the Fortified Church of Jõhvi (Jõhvi)

On 6 November we’ll explore the Museum of the Fortified Church of Jõhvi. Situated beneath the vaulted ceilings of the church’s basement, directly under its altar, the museum is linked to the church above by a series of narrow walled passageways. Among the exhibits is a model of the church as it appeared during the time of the Livonian War, when it first took on its fortified appearance. The tragic events of that 16th-century war, and a legend of two brothers that explains how the church came to be, are recounted in a glass painting covering the entire western wall of the basement.

Museum day: Kukruse Polar Manor (Jõhvi)

On 2 October we’ll be visiting Kukruse Polar Manor and taking a trip back in time. On this guided excursion you’ll get the chance to try on old costumes and write a letter using a quill and ink. The letter will be folded up to form an envelope, which will then by stamped with an authentic wax seal. You’ll even get to visit the North Pole, where old-fashioned adventure awaits in a snowball fight and traditional sledding.

Cosy handicrafts workshops (in Jõhvi)

We’re organising a range of handicrafts workshops in the cosy setting of Jõhvi Central Library. The crafts will be led by Gerri Orgma, who in the course of four workshops will be showing you how to make: 1) a brooch (using metal locks, handicraft felt and pearls); 2) items woven together from recycled materials (from wristbands to carpets); 3) sock and glove puppets ; and 4) items using mixed media and decorations for them. Everyone interested will be able to try their own hand at the crafts, all while practising their Estonian. Places are limited: just 10 people can take part in each workshop.
