Discussing money and taxes (Klooga)

At the event, we are going to expand our horizons and learn about topics related to economy which affect everyone. We are going to discuss purchases, income, and state taxes in Estonian.

What do people buy and how do they pay for the goods and services? Is money earned or does one’s income consist of benefits? To what extent does the state support its people? Where does a state get its funds? We are going discuss these and other topics related to market economy in Estonian.

The moderator of the meetings is Taimi Viidna. She has taught accounting and preparation of business plans to adults for 25 years and is currently employed as an accountant. She is registered as a self-employed person. Taimi has a great sense of humour and is very knowledgeable about a wide variety of topics.

Meeting with Marianne Mikko (Klooga)

We are going to meet Marianne Mikko who is a writer, a former journalist, a member of the European Parliament, and a politician.

Marianne was recently elected a member of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. During the meeting, we will discuss politics and equal opportunities for participation in the political sphere. Everyone is invited to join us for a cup of coffee.

New Estonian cinema (Narva)

‘New Estonian cinema’ is a monthly series of film evenings focused on recent Estonian cinema.

The series focuses mainly on the best Estonian comedy and drama films, but also features award-winning documentaries and artistic short films (BFM).

If you have not yet seen the first instalment of the film series Melchior the Apothecary, now is your chance! The Estonian Language House welcomes you back for a mysterious journey to mediaeval Tallinn, where some peculiar stories are about to unfold. Let’s sing together! (Paldiski)

We are going to sing Estonian songs from various genres, learn about the Estonian culture, and practice Estonian.

By singing together, we are going to learn Estonian folk songs, runic songs, pop songs, and learn about Estonian culture. Through the songs, we will learn Estonian vocabulary and pronunciation, have more confidence when speaking, and find new friends. From time to time, we will also play various interactive games and have quizzes.

Sillamäe social club (Sillamäe)

The Sillamäe social club of the Estonian Language House in Narva is a perfect place to practice the Estonian language. We also talk about the events of Ida-Viru County and discuss what is happening close to home.

The social club welcomes language learners who want to overcome the communication barrier and discuss topics that are currently relevant in society: for example, switching to Estonian-language education, caring for loved ones in need, and the green transition.

Language Training through physical activities (Paldiski)

Practical language training through physical activity – we are going to be active, communicate, and learn!

Language training takes place twice a month starting from September. All activities are relaxed, fun, and interesting. We are going to get to know one another, make friends, and learn Estonian together. You will not even notice learning the language as we spend time together.

Yoga classes, dance lessons, hikes, parlour games – all activities are accompanied by learning Estonian through communication and expressing yourself. We are going to meet new friends and learn Estonian!

All who are interested are welcome to join the workouts of our team, regardless of age or physical form. If you are interested, then this is an easy way to polish your Estonian skills.

Visit to Maarjamäe (Klooga)

We will depart from Klooga to go on an excursion of Tallinn and visit Maarjamäe Palace and the Film Museum.

We will learn about the various eras in Estonian history, Estonian film history, and the best Estonian films of all time. Before returning home, you can visit the outdoor exhibition of Soviet monuments and the Maarjamäe memorial and burial sites independently.

Pärnu Social Club (Pärnu)

We are going to get to know one another, practice Estonian, play team games, and have a cup of coffee together.

The Social Club, which meets in the conference hall of the Pärnu Central Library, brings together people from various cultural backgrounds who would like to practice Estonian in a pleasant and friendly setting. The Club is a place for getting acquainted with one another, playing fun team games, and exchanging information.

Having a cup of coffee goes hand-in-hand with a Saturday morning.

Kiviõli parents’ club (Kiviõli)

Parents whose mother tongue is Russian or another language and whose children study in a kindergarten group or school in Estonian are invited to the meetings. We share experiences on how to support children in their studies.

The goal is to encourage parents to speak in Estonian. Every meeting focuses on one topic. Participants can discuss and collaborate in groups.

Bobbin lace making in Estonian (Kiviõli)

Together with bobbin lace master Olga Kublitskaja and local bobbin lace enthusiast Urve Hiie, we will get to know the history of bobbin lace making and lace. We will also practice the Estonian language.

Olga Kublitskaja, an internationally known bobbin lace master and trainer, will help the participants make wonderful laces. The main purpose of the classes is to encourage the participants to speak Estonian.
