The aim of the Swiss-Estonian cooperation programme is to improve opportunities for people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds for more active participation in the Estonian society with a focus on supporting digital revolution in the field of integration, involving volunteers, and increasing the accessibility of consultation services, including language learning consultation services. It also introduces Estonian culture and customs to people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds and creates a programme supporting better media literacy. These steps create a comprehensive and strategic basis for involving people from different cultures and speaking different languages, helping to strengthen social and cultural cohesion in Estonia.
Aim
The aim of the activities introducing Estonian culture and customs is to help people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds understand the Estonian way of life, feel comfortable here, and be able to actively participate in the Estonian society.
To this end, activities (including cultural events and visits to institutions) are organised to help participants learn about the Estonian culture and traditions and practise the Estonian language. Joint activities promote social ties and readiness to participate in social life. Understanding and learning about Estonian culture and customs promotes awareness of each other’s traditions and values, creating a basis for mutual respect and tolerance. Cultural dialogue also supports the preservation and understanding of native cultural values among different ethnic groups.
