Book club (in Tallinn) ZOOM

The members of our book club dive into Estonian literature, visit literary centres and the museums of writers, admire monuments to authors that have become part of the streetscape and find out what Tallinn’s libraries have to offer. 

The meetings of Book club will take place on 17.02, 10.03, 24.03, 14.04, 28.04, 12.05, 26.05, 09.06, 16.06.

Estonian folk culture workshops (Tallinn)-POSTPONED!

In association with the Estonian Folk Culture Centre, the Estonian Language Centre in Tallinn is hosting workshops showcasing Estonian customs, holidays, rituals, folk songs and dances and much more. The course includes engaging talks, seminars, discussions and hands-on activities. Each workshop provides an overview of a particular facet of folk culture and involves singing Estonian songs and discussing holidays and special events that fall during the given month.

WORKSHOPS

26 February | 13:00-16:00 | February songs and special days. Traditional Estonian handicrafts in the example of national costume. National costume and Estonian weddings. Hands-on task: weaving laces. Participants are asked to bring a small amount of woollen yarn with them.

26 March | 13:00-16:00 | March songs and special days. The culture of the island of Kihnu. Women’s folk traditions on Kihnu (folk songs, national costume and customs). Call to mind what you know about Kihnu!

30 April | 13:00-16:00 | April songs and special days. Men’s folk song traditions. ‘To each man his own instrument.’ What instruments did the men in your family play, or what songs did they sing?

28 May | 13:00-16:00 | May songs and special days. The Whitsun and Midsummer holidays (customs, storytelling heritage and traditional songs). What does your family do at Midsummer?

Let’s Sing in Estonian! (Pärnu) - POSTPONED!

This series of events is designed to bring together people in the greater Pärnu area whose first language is not Estonian to learn how to sing simple Estonian-language songs.  The songs are chosen according to the preferences of the participants. The first half of each lesson focuses on the lyrics and understanding them. The participants are provided with print-outs of the words, on which they can make notes. After that, a musician teaches the group how to sing the song, providing an instrumental accompaniment. The events are both entertaining and educational, with the participants enjoying singing together and at the same time learning Estonian.

Forest game ‘Explore Estonia’ (starting from Tallinn) - POSTPONED!

We will get acquainted with valuable natural places, learn vocabulary related to plants, animals and birds, talk about caring about the nature. There will be a quiz in the conclusion.  

 
! Choose appropriate clothing according to the weather. As the day will be long then we recommend you to take your own drink and snack with you. The plan is subject to change.

‘Get to Know Tallinn’ – tales of the city with Jaak Juske (Tallinn) - POSTPONED!

Noted historian Jaak Juske leads language-learners on walks through some of Tallinn’s best-known districts. Fun stories help the participants learn more about these areas, their culture and their history while giving them the chance to practise their Estonian. The excursions utilise simplified Estonian so that the stories are easier for everyone to understand and contribute to.
