Path to Estonian Citizenship: Steps, Rules and Personal Experience
What does it take to become an Estonian citizen? What requirements need to be met, where should you apply, and what challenges might you encounter along the way?
On Sunday, 27 September at 12:00, the first meeting of the Kodanikuakadeemia civic education programme will take place in Narva. We will discuss the process of obtaining Estonian citizenship with experts as well as with someone who has recently gone through the process himself.
The discussion will feature:
🔹 Jekaterina Gvozdeva, representative of the Integration Foundation, who will explain what information, counselling and support are available to those preparing to apply for Estonian citizenship;
🔹 a representative of the Police and Border Guard Board, who will explain the legal requirements and application procedure for obtaining Estonian citizenship;
🔹 Stepan, who recently became an Estonian citizen and will share his personal experience: how he made the decision, prepared for the application and completed the necessary steps.
The meeting will combine short presentations, an open discussion and a Q&A session. Participants will also receive practical information about the main steps involved in applying for Estonian citizenship.
The meeting is intended for adults whose native language is not Estonian, who have legally resided in Estonia for more than five years and are considering applying for Estonian citizenship or would like to better understand their rights and opportunities.
