A fragmented world, a shared home
The rougher the sea, the stronger the crew’s spirit and teamwork must be to ensure the ship reaches port safely. In times of geopolitical turbulence, it is particularly important to keep our shared goals in mind and to cherish the things that hold our society together.
In a fragmented world where polarisation is deepening both within and between nations, social cohesion and unity are more than just a political objective – they can become a prerequisite for a nation’s strength or even its very survival. At the same time, in the quest for unity, it is important to preserve the freedom of expression that is inherent to democracy and to maintain a balance between consensus and plurality of opinions. Migration, cultural diversity, and inter-ethnic tensions put society to the test, but also offer an opportunity to strengthen it
The conference brings together researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners to discuss how to support the integration of ethnic minorities and newly arrived immigrants without losing their unique characteristics and ethnic identities. How can we maintain a sense of social cohesion at a time when geopolitical tensions are fuelling fears and prejudices?
A shared home does not mean that everyone is the same – it means shared values and mutual respect.
